Stay Outdoors Halton Mommy is a blog that celebrates finding joy in nature and living a healthy and active outdoor lifestyle, with a special focus on activities, events and resources available to families with kids living in Halton Region, Ontario, Canada.
Hi! I’m so glad you’ve stopped by to visit. My name is Ash and I am a SOHM. What is a SOHM, you ask? Well, you’ve probably heard of the term SAHM (stay-at-home-mom), WOHM (work-out-of-the-home-mom) and WAHM (work-at-home-mom). The truth is, I have been all of these things, at different times, based on circumstances or by choice. And I didn’t feel any of them really described me best overall. So, I coined a new term for myself: Stay-Outdoors-Halton Mommy.
“Outdoors” because I am a passionate about being in the outside in the fresh air with my kids. My motto: there is no bad weather, just bad clothing. Obviously, it’s not always possible to be in the great outdoors (I’m looking at you, polar vortex), but I am a happier mom when I’m outside playing with the kids, rather than “staying at home” where I can’t see the forest for the chores.
“Halton” because I am a proud resident of Halton Region. My husband and I moved to Oakville in 2009, enchanted with the idea of living in a suburban area criss-crossed by nature trails, and close to the lake and escarpment. We both had active, outdoorsy childhoods growing up, and wanted to raise a family in a place where it was easy to go for hikes, skate on outdoor ponds in the winter and go to the beach in the summer. Since living here, I’ve discovered and come to love the picturesque main streets, unique events, businesses and restaurants in the Region. It’s a fantastic place to raise a family.
Speaking of family, here’s mine: my husband, who shall be known on the blog as World’s Greatest Dad (or WGD for short) and our daughters “Cat” and “Em” (born in 2011 and 2013). We also have a dog, Chewbacca (can you guess who is the Star Wars fan?)
I’ve created SOHM as a place to share my love of family, Halton Region and outdoor adventures with other like-minded parents. I am proud to support local business and hope to connect readers of this blog to useful and interesting local events, information and resources.
Thanks for joining me!
